Eric Williams is an everyday chap from the twenty first century, at least until a time machine from the far far far future lands in front of him and disgorges a package tour of senior citizens, who have travelled back to meet with Eric... Things get worse when, the following night, another time machine appears, this one merely from the near-far future, carrying a consortium of businessmen (headed by the ruthless Marco White), and scientific personnel, (headed by the infuriating Tessa Dalby), who have travelled back from 2290 in their prototype time machine to observe the past. Eric stumbles on a plot from the future (Marco's present) to destabilise the past (Eric's present) to shape the future (Marco's present, again), and thus Eric is forced to become a reluctant traveller to the near-far future to expose the plot. Then the far future launches war on the near-far future, and from then on, things get really complicated. Battling against base businessmen, perfidious politicians, genocidal generals, malicious media moguls, and a sane mad-man who appears to be in two places at once, Eric is forced into unlikely alliances and compromises just to stay alive. Can Eric survive the terrible bombardment of time missiles raining down on the country? Can he discover who is behind the time war, or will he be confused to death trying to keep track of which time zone is attacking which, and why? And can he resist the temptation to strangle Tessa Dalby, quite possibly the most annoying person ever born? Time will tell Unless it doesn't. For time is about to crack
