This Bugatti Type 41 Royale was the brainchild of Ettore Bugatti. In the 1920s Bugatti was expecting to get a contract from the French military to build 16-cylinder aircraft engines. The contract never materialized but Bugatti felt he could use half that engine a straight eight to form one of the most amazing luxury cars in history. At a selling price of $43000 in 1931 it is arguably the most expensive car ever made. There were only six made during the production run starting in 1927 and ending in 1933. In 1991 one of the six sold at auction for an astounding $8000000.00. This is still the largest engine of any car to be sold privately. The unused engines from Bugatti’s manufacturing company were pressed into service in locomotives on the French national railways. This die-cast model is a milestone in model manufacturing. With more than 1300 individual parts and 18 different materials used in the making of this model this is truly a masterpiece of craftsmanship. The die-cast metal body can be removed through a few manipulations from the chassis that gives you a unique view of a scaled version of the nearly 5 foot long original engine. The 4-pound weight is exceptional for a 1:18 scale model—as was the deadweight of the original car which weighed more than 6800 pounds. Comes with plastic display cover. Approximate Dimensions: L13.75 x W-5.25 x H-4.75 inches.
